Guitar - Dulcimer Style
I designed, fabricated and assembled this dulcimer style guitar based off of a heart-shaped baking pan for my daughter. The neck is fabricated from solid maple, is laminated to the soundboard and runs through the body. The headstock is laminated to the neck at an angle using a scarf joint, and the soundboard is fabricated out of ⅛ inch thick maple plywood. The nickel frets were laid out in a diatonic scale, and it is tuned DADD.
This project started after my daughter saw a homemade banjo in Make Magazine. She decided on a heart shaped body, and we found a cake mold that would work. She also chose the finish color.
